BIO & EXPERIENCE
Professional Experience
Greg’s background includes more than 20 years of executive leadership experience in the public accounting profession. He has predominantly focused on providing strategic guidance and direction for public accounting firms in the Upper Midwest by facilitating the creation of visions and strategies for success, especially in the area of new services where his unique experience provides significant insight on how firms can best build and integrate non-traditional services. Greg has significant experience leading mergers and acquisitions, integrating industry teams and non-traditional services into business units, and adjusting the governance and all internal support systems as practices grow and evolve over time.
Greg started his accounting career at Wipfli in 1980 in Wausau, Wisconsin in their audit practice. As a young partner in 1992, he broke away from the audit practice to create, build and integrate their non-traditional service’s practice. In 2001, Greg became Wipfli’s managing partner when the non-traditional practice totaled $8M of the firm’s total $40M of annual revenue. By late 2004, through the leveraging of their strong non-traditional practice, Wipfli had acquired practices in Milwaukee, Madison and Minneapolis, increasing firm revenue to a bit north of $70M. In 2007, Greg left Wipfli and became Eide Baily’s Minneapolis practice leader. In 2013, Greg entered into a five year contract to become Schenck SC’s managing partner to see if he could help this top forty firm build and integrate industry and non-traditional services in its quest to become a stronger Midwest regional firm. At the end of 2018, as Greg’s five year contract expired, Schenck rolled into CliftonLarsonAllen.

Personal
Greg grew up in southern Wisconsin, the son of a carpenter and home building contractor and caring, servant mother, where he established his love for woodworking and home building. He’s always had a love for competition and sports as he grew up participating in most all, which lead to his opportunity to play football for the Wisconsin Badgers, earning First-Team All-Academic Big Ten honors while earning his undergraduate degree in accounting. Greg strongly believes the life experiences gained from his love and participation in team-oriented sports has had a huge impact on who he is today, and a keen understanding of the power of “team” and what it takes to build and maintain one.
Greg is married to his high school sweetheart and best friend Nancy. Nancy and Greg have also been blessed with three wonderful children, their spouses and now six grandchildren. When not at their home in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Nancy and Greg can be found either in Minneapolis visiting their children and grandchildren or spending time in what Greg calls “their happy place”… their cottage in Northern Wisconsin.
